AIX and Linux Server Administrator
DEPARTMENT:
Administrative Information Services
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Reports to the Director of Information Technology Services. This position is responsible for the administration of all AIX and Linux servers throughout the campuses.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
For all AIX- and Linux-based servers:
Install, configure and secure new instances.
Manage and maintain existing instances including tuning, updates, patches, logging.
Monitor and optimize server and
application performance and security.
Install, configure, secure and maintain Blade Center / SAN / VMWare infrastructure.
Work closely with the Novell/GroupWise Administrator to maintain Novell Netware and SUSE Linux Servers.
Work with faculty and staff to design, create, and implement appropriate solutions using Linux-based applications.
Collaborate with other staff to monitor and edit backup processes to ensure data and system recovery in the event of a system failure.
Work with Help Desk staff to optimize utilization of server-based applications by workstations on- and off-campus.
Work collaboratively with members of the other units in Information Technology Services and with Academic Information Services staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 3-5 years of related professional experience with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
Good interpersonal skills; good communications skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to assume responsibility for independent action.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
ARelated professional experience in a college setting.
Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of directly comparable experience and 1-2 years knowledge and expertise with SUSE Linux Servers and Java GUI programming.
