General Statement of Duties:
L-1 Biometrics, a division of L-1 Identity Solutions, provides a full range of iris, fingerprint and facial biometric technologies, as well as systems and solutions that empower the identification of individuals in large-scale identity and identity management programs.
We are seeking a Software Engineer II at our office in Jersey City, NJ. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, rapidly growing organization.

The selected candidate will be a core developer and delivery testing resource on a team that delivers an integrated set of software components. This person will be responsible for a single component end-to-end, as well as integrated primary testing of that component and the integration of that component with others in the software ecosystem of which it is a part. Responsible for end-to-end requirements response, sub-component architecture, low level code design and implementation. Application environments include Windows and Linux with development tools ranging from Java, Servlets, JMX, HTML, CSS, AJAX, Bash Shell, Unix Command Line Tools (scripting), and possibly Python.

Essential Functions:

Development and design of Java based applications involving Servlets, Swing, JMS, JMX, SOAP and other contemporary java application topics
Development and design of scripted toolchains for Linux and Windows environments based on the UNIX dependency chain, potentially implemented in languages such as PERL, Python and Ruby
Development and design of basic scripted toolchains leveraging Bash and other common shell utilities available in common UNIX-like environments
Development, design and execution of testing scripts and plans for component, subsystem and complete integrated system functions as they pertain to company products and customer integrations
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Interaction with and ability to utilize RDBMS tools including working knowledge of SQL 92 or better in any of the following environments: Oracle, MS SQL Server, DB2, MySQL, H2, Derby
Solid understanding of the development process
Excellent communication skills – within the core working group, between dependent groups with which the products are shared and utilized, and with external clients and client representatives
Fluency in written and spoken English
Qualifications and Experience:

BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mathematics, plus a minimum of 2 years experience in Software Engineering or other directly related field as defined by the essential functions; or a combination of education and experience that would enable performance of the full scope of the position
Hands-on experience working with heterogeneous server environments, including technologies such as Blade Servers and other Server-Class hardware, IP Networking, SAN, VMWare, SNMP and other management technologies
