Description:
The Non-Residential Program seeks 2 Children and Youth Counselors (F/T for Queens site) (P/T for Manhattan site) who will be responsible for providing comprehensive individual and group counseling on crisis intervention, breaking the cycle of violence and promote positive self-esteem/motivation to children and youth, participating in VIP’s Non-Residential Program who has been exposed to domestic violence in the home.

Essential Functions:
Provide crisis counseling as needed to age appropriate children and youth.
Develop individualized counseling plans for the clients.
Maintain proper documentation (record keeping, reports and statistical information) on a timely manner for all clients.
Develop service plans with measurable outcomes and services as identified by the program and funding source in a timely manner.
Provide interventions that promote positive relationships between clients, parents, their community, various institutions and schools to enhance the positive development of clients.
Create and provide positive self-esteem/motivation to children and youth in the Residential Program.
Validate, support and encourage Strength Based Counseling with a focus on personal wellness and independence as identified, and implement according to the clients counseling plan.
Facilitate weekly age appropriate bi-lingual support groups.
Work with age appropriate clients on an on-going basis around the issues of conflict resolution, separation, diversity issues (including cultural, religious, and sexual orientation issues), etc.
Identify and provide referrals to outside therapeutic services as necessary.
Work collaboratively with Family Worker, Program Manager and other service providers on a consistent basis to ensure the highest quality service delivery.
Participate in various programmatic meetings: house Meetings, staff meetings, team meetings, Individual Service Plans, etc.
Be prepared to present client cases at case conferences, individualized service plan meetings and inter-disciplinary meetings as needed.
Conduct community outreach and /or educational workshops on a monthly basis, or as needed by program.
Support and abide by the Violence Intervention Program’s mission, values and policies and procedures, including strictly adhering to the agency’s confidentiality policies.
Perform any other duties and assignments to ensure appropriate quality service delivery to all clients of VIP’s service programs and organization.

Additional Qualifications:
Bi-lingual a must (English/Spanish)

BSW/BA required; MSW Preferred
Must have a minimum of 3 years counseling experience in the area of Domestic Violence, women and children issue, or in the field of immigrant issues
Must be knowledgeable in working with diverse communities, particularly Latinos, people of color, and low income population
Must have excellent verbal, written and communication skills; including documenting skills
Must be computer literate
