Job Description
This senior communications management role is responsible for the development and implementation of leader and internal communications plans for DTT's Global Tax Managing Partner (GTMP). This hands-on role will assist the GTMP and other leaders with developing messages to align staff with strategy as part of a senior, multi-disciplinary team. The position reports to the Senior Manager, DTT Business Unit Communications and maintains a client service relationship with the Global Tax Chief of Staff, within a matrix management structure.
The nature of the work in this role is highly complex dealing with situations that are often challenging. Extensive judgment is necessary in prioritizing, delegating and measuring the business impact of communication activities. An exceptional eye for detail and systematic approach to quality assurance are critical for success in this role. Specific tax knowledge is not required.
The successful candidate must be able to assess preliminary information and determine both additional information needs and come to a quick decision on next steps required. The Communication Manager is expected to respond quickly, decisively and with the appropriate level of detail when designing communication plans and responding to requests for assistance from Global Tax leaders.
This is a highly independent role. The successful candidate must be a self-starter who can apply his/her knowledge and skills as described above with minimal guidance.
Core responsibilities
· Develop and implement the executive communications plan for the Global Tax Managing Partner, including key messages, tactical recommendations, measurement of results and monthly dashboard reporting on key activities and business impacts.
· Assess internal communication needs, write, edit, produce, and manage distribution of internal communications. Consult with all levels, senior management through designers, to define and implement various communications projects.
· Maintain and evolve an internal communications plan & key messages framework for use by global tax leaders to ensure alignment for leader messaging. Significantly enhance DTT Global Tax's internal communications to improve message coordination, clarity, consistency, and context.
· Promote effective communications as a strategic practice and integral part of the success of Global Tax. Facilitate internal communications within Global Tax and foster an environment of open, transparent communications. Coach others within DTT Global Tax on internal communications best practices, strategies and tactics.
· Assist in the development of strategy for the DTT Tax services intranet, working in conjunction with the global tax eminence & online solutions team.
· Lead and contribute to special projects for the DTT Communications team as required. Align Global Tax with DTT communications competencies, processes, branding and related standards as described by DTT Communications.
Skills, experience and education required
· 6-8 years experience in organizational communications, with at least one year of experience working directly with senior / executive leaders .
· BA/BS in communications, psychology, business administration, or related fields. MA/MS/MBA or IABC Accredited Business Communicator certification preferred.
· Advanced employee communications skills, including internal communications, presentation skills, leadership communications and ability to measure the impact of communications upon business results.
· Strong understanding of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu operating environment OR successful experience working in a comparable global professional services environment.
· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; excellent listening and facilitation skills. Must be able to interact effectively with professionals at all levels and communicate recommendations with diplomacy and tact. Demonstrated experience working and influencing from a distance as part of a virtual team, with ability to work independently leading key projects as well as contribute effectively as part of one or more project teams.
· Advanced skills working with Microsoft Office 2007 applications required.
· Hands-on experience with web content management tools strongly preferred.
· Demonstrated understanding of social media concepts required. Direct experience with one or more social media tools in a leader communications context strongly preferred.
· Ability to travel as required (anticipated travel less than 10%).
