A Assitant Vice-President level attorney is needed to provide legal support to J.P. Morgan's Worldwide Securities Services business. This business is a global leader in the provision of custody, fund administration, securities lending, clearance, collateral management, alternative investment services, and operational services to investment managers and institutional investors world-wide.

The successful candidate will work primarily with WSS's clearance and collateral management business lines in the United States. The position will entail provision of legal advice on a wide range of issues, including the negotiation and drafting of agreements with large financial institutions, new product development, legal policies, controls and day-to-day business support. The position entails extensive, independent contact with and support of sales, relationship management and product management business personnel within WSS.

The position is located in New York. It reports to an Executive Director within J.P. Morgan's Legal and Compliance Department responsible for the clearance and collateral management business lines within Worldwide Securities Services.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be qualified to practice in New York with at least 3-5 years of legal experience with a major law firm (or equivalent in-house experience).

Background in the financial services industry, particularly credit transactions and securities clearing and collateral management is preferred; and

Background in providing legal services to an operations-intensive business is preferred.

Additionally, the successful candidate will have the following attributes:

Strong organisational and project management skills, including excellent time and matter management skills;

Pragmatic with excellent business sense;

Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team;

Strong oral communication skills;

Strong client relation management skills; and

Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
