CFR.org is the Council's award-winning web site that is a leading source of content, analysis, and foreign policy options. It publishes a mix of resources, including interactive Crisis Guides, Daily News briefs, backgrounders, and interviews with foreign policy leaders. CFR.org collaborates closely with CFR's think tank staff on its content, and features insights from CFR Fellows in a number of ways, including Expert Briefs, op-eds, and podcasts.
Under the direction of the Editor, the Deputy Editor will contribute to CFR.org's new editorial strategy, which is aimed at enriching the site's offerings from CFR scholars, meetings, and published materials. The responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Manage all aspects of daily publishing for CFR.org.
Coordinate with CFR's Studies Department on developing and packaging editorial content that will identify and analyze major foreign policy issues. Work with Fellows to ensure swift response to breaking news with policy implications.
Oversee day-to-day editing and assignments as well as changes to the home page
Lead website development initatives
Edit short form web-only work from Fellows, such as Expert Briefs and First Takes
Writing content as assigned by the Editor
Assist Editor in setting content and editorial strategy
Directly supervise the CFR.org team
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum five years experience in writing and/or editing foreign policy analysis; preferably with an on-line publication
Excellent knowledge of a wide range of U. S. foreign policy issues, especially global economic and financial issues
Experience in a policy-related position a plus, along with ability to translate policy issues into concise language
Related experience in web publishing, including production and editing of digital audio, photo, and interactive media editing
Experience supervising an editorial team in a deadline-driven environment
Graduate degree in international relations or a related field
