Under the general supervision of the Site Manager the incumbent will direct the operations and maintenance activities of the generating facility in a safe, uninterrupted, environmentally sound and efficient manner to meet market demands. The person will ensure the safety of all employees through the effective use of the NRG safety program. Ensures that high standards of safety are developed, met and maintained. Effectively plans and coordinates a high level of activity for the operations and maintenance groups and any contractors on site under a variety of conditions such as planned outages, emergencies, etc. Interfaces and coordinates with site support groups.
Completes outage work to eliminate deratings so as to minimize impact on gas turbine site net income. Provides technical support to various GT personnel to maintain efficiency, reliability and availability of the facility. Assists in identifying the root cause of problems. Performs systems checkout, field inspections and troubleshooting. Develops, modifies and implements procedures in areas such as preventative and predictive maintenance, operations and testing of equipment and systems.
Assists in long-range planning and scheduling. Performs cost control functions and ensures compliance with the budget. Supervises and directs the work of contractors, as required, performing repairs in station. Orders materials and recommends contractors. Assists in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events. Provides analysis, recommendations, reports and appropriate follow-up plans. Performs human resource functions, including: employee evaluation , coaching, training and administering the labor contract. Sets clear goals and standards for performance and holds assigned personnel accountable to achieve them.
Maintains a proactive working relationship with Local 1-2. Trains operator and mechanics on plant-specific equipment and systems, as well as state-of-the-art maintenance techniques. Develops, submits and retains copies of NERC compliance reports
REQUIRED - - Requires a minimum of Ten (10) years qualifying experience in a gas turbine electrical generating facility or knowledge equivalent to that acquired through completion of a formal Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautics or related field with six (6) years of field-related experience. Must have a strong operating and maintenance background in gas turbine operations. Must be self-motivated. with a demonstrated ability in the areas of group supervision and planning. Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and computerized maintenance management systems. Ability to analyze complex, costly equipment problems and resolve them. Demonstrate strong planning, analytical communication and supervisory skills. Must have working knowledge of relevant codes, environmental regulations and all OSHA and NRG safety rules and regulations. Must be capable of working and interacting with other plant personnel, contractors, government agencies, etc.; Must have ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications. Federal, City and State licenses as required for site operation..
DESIRED - New York City High Pressure Stationary Engineers License.
