POSITION SCOPE:


The Education Director works independently most of the time to oversee and manage individual and educational services for club members.  Personal attention will be directed at the members in most need of social skills and educational development.  Activity emphasis will be in the areas of schooling and career exploration.


 


RESPONSIBILITIES:


§         Develop goals and objectives for department by providing outcome measures.


§         Serve as department head and model leadership in manner, dress, appearance, etc.


§         Attend meetings and training as directed.


§         Frequent, subscribe to and affiliate with professional groups relative to your areas of concentration.


§         Manage the following areas of the facility that support education programs, library, computer room, and tutoring room (when scheduled).


§         Supervise, screen, hire, train, etc. staff for the areas in your charge utilizing the established procedures and instruments of the organization.


§         Review staff in writing at least annually.


§         Requisition supplies and equipment as is appropriate while staying within pre-approved budget.


§         Maintain supplies and equipment for maximum product life.


§         Implement varied and diversified educational programs using national BGCA education initiatives (i.e., Power Hours, Tech Soup, etc.)


§         Conduct in-process reviews via Commitment to Quality write-ups in regard to your program activities.


§         Conduct at least one staff meeting per month.


§         Conduct special interest clubs e.g. Science Club, Newspaper Club.


§         Submit weekly activity sheets and plans, season schedules, annual budget proposals and staff payrolls.


§         Promote activities via decorated and updated boards, signs, posters, flyers, and verbal communications in the outreach mode.


§         Oversee Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club facility in absence of co-workers and supervisor.


§         Prepare periodic reports that measure the effectiveness of monitoring computer education and other alternative programs such as technical school placement, SAT programming, college searches.


§         Conduct annual inventories.


§         Take a direct interest in monitoring Homework Help and qualitative video or television programming.


§         Oversee the Scholarship Program at Kips Bay.


 


Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:


§         Generalist know-how in directing the work of others and managing the areas in which program components are implemented. 


§         Specialist know-how in supervising and implementing education programs. 


§         Human relations know-how in interactions with a multitude of populations. 


§         Trainee know-how in acquiring new skills that are necessary for completion of tasks assigned.
