The Center for Children and Technology (CCT), a division of Education Development Center, is a research and curriculum development group that carries out a wide program of basic and applied research as well as prototype design and development. CCT investigates the roles technology does and can play in children’s lives in general and in the classroom in particular, and designs and develops prototypical software that supports engaged, active learning. EDC and CCT are committed to diversity in the workplace.
CCT seeks a part-time Research Assistant I to be part of the Advancing Biology in Education Through Online Professional Development research project. This project will examine the effects of online professional development courses on high school biology teachers’ content and pedagogical knowledge, and on their students’ knowledge. This position is based in New York City and reports to a Research Associate and Principal Investigator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Under management oversight, the Research Assistant will provide support to qualitative and quantitative investigation efforts, including: entering, cleaning, and maintaining data; logging progress; and reporting problems found in the data. The Research Assistant also performs administrative tasks; facilitates project teamwork; seeks and utilizes feedback from colleagues; assists with quality assurance; and provides logistical support. The main job responsibility will be data entry.

QUALIFICATIONS - All jobs require educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; strong interpersonal & organizational skills.
This position requires a Bachelors degree, plus 2-4 years of experience. Masters degree or an equivalent combination of training and education in a related field preferred. Experience constructing and working with Excel and SPSS databases with social science variables is highly desirable. The ideal candidate can work independently to complete assigned tasks within a given timeline. Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills are a must. Experience with teacher professional development programs or formal training in quantitative research methods are a plus.
