POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES



 



 




The Chairperson’s responsibilities include the development and articulation of departmental policies, review and assessment of departmental personnel, and establishing and fostering connections between the department and other academic programs and activities. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to participate in the intellectual and institutional development of Geography within the City University of New York system which includes faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center, Lehman College, and among many other CUNY institutions where geographers are present.

The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, maintain an active research record, be a mentor to junior faculty, and advise students.



 



QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS



 



 




Applicants must have a PhD in geography, environmental studies or earth sciences and be qualified for appointment with tenure at the rank of full professor. The successful candidate will offer a strong administrative, teaching, and research record. Administrative experience at the department level, good interpersonal skills, and effective oral and written communications skills are necessary. Publications in peer reviewed journals and a record of extramural funding are preferred.

Individuals in this profession work with children and young adults who have a variety of disabilities. They provide group or individual instruction, modify general education curriculum, and teach life skills and basic literacy.
This profession covers individuals who are employed as librarians in academic and public libraries, as well as specialized libraries and archives. This profession also covers professionals who are employed as information professionals within corporations or specialized consulting firms.
