Flight Instructor (Full-time and Part-time Positions)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Responsible for conducting individual flight instruction with Dowling College Flight students. To include ground lessons and flight simulation training for their students.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Conduct flight training for the Private Pilot Flight
Lab, Instrument Rating Flight Lab, Commercial Pilot Flight Lab, Multi-Engine Flight Lab and all Flight Instructor Flight Labs. Flight Instruction will include all basic and advanced flight maneuvers such as steep turns, turns around a point, normal take-offs and landings, short and soft field take-offs and landings, power on and power off stalls, chandelles and lazy eights. It will also include day and night cross-country flights of up to 300 nautical miles form Brookhaven Airport under both VFR and IFR conditions. Instructors will also give extensive emergency procedures training to students during all stages of flight.
Conduct one-on-one ground school training to each student on there
particular course. Ground training will include aerodynamics, aero-medical factors, high altitude operations, ground operations, etc. Instructors are also required to do oral examinations of the material covered in previous lessons. A minimum of 20 minutes will be spent on each lesson conducting pre and post flight briefings.Conduct flight simulation in the FRASA 241 and 242. Instructors will introduce all maneuvers in the simulator prior to performing the maneuver in the airplane.
Scheduling of flight and ground training sessions will be the instructors' responsibility. Instructors will have each student on for two, 2 hour lessons each week. The instructor will coordinate with their students to ensure students are aware of their lesson time and what type of equipment will be used.
Instructors are responsible for obtaining FAA required documentation (birth certificate, passport, driver license, medical etc.) from students and turning it in to the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor.
Instructors are required to log every flight in each students personal logbook and 141 record folder. They must also track total time, dual time, solo time, cross-country time, night time and number of take-offs and landing. Instructors are required to log and track any other necessary time not mentioned.
Conduct tours for perspective students of aircraft, flight simulators and ATC laboratory. Instructors must have a working knowledge of Dowling College in order to adequately answer any question presented by either a student or parent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma
Minimum of 200 flight hours
Commercial Pilot Certificate
Certified Flight Instructor Certificate
