Senior Program Manager - THE Tunnel Project

NJ TRANSIT, in conjunction with their project partners, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has begun construction on the nation’s largest public transportation infrastructure project. The $8.7 billion dollar project, known as Access to the Region’s Core- Mass Transit Tunnel, will double west of the Hudson River commuter rail capacity into midtown Manhattan.

 

The project elements of this historic undertaking include: over 8.5 miles of bored tunnels, a modern six-track station below 34th Street in Manhattan, construction of a rail storage yard facility in New Jersey, and laying over 20 miles of new rail tracks.

 

NJ TRANSIT is currently looking for qualified, motivated individuals interested in being a part of the team dedicated to building this once in a lifetime project. 

 

NJ TRANSIT is the nation’s largest statewide public transportation agency providing over 900,000 trips daily across the system.  The agency operates 12 commuter rail lines, 3 light-rail lines, over 230 bus routes serving New Jersey, New York City, and Philadelphia. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Leads a team of program managers and support staff to manage the design & construction contracts.

2.    Works with senior management from NJ TRANSIT departments to ensure that the project is being built in accordance with user-department specifications and requirements.
3.    Provides coordination with external agencies to ensure that the project is designed and constructed in compliance with the guidelines and requirements of federal, state, and local.
4.    Ensures project managers meet oversight reporting requirements of Federal Transit Administration, USDOT Office of Inspector General, NJ Office of the State Comptroller and other oversight organizations.
5.    Manages contract staff responsible for construction management and construction activities.
6.    Formulates technical solutions to satisfy project objectives.
7.    Maintains project schedules and project budgets.
8.    Reviews and approves status reports, updates and presentations.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Bachelors degree in Engineering, related field, or equivalent and more than nine (9) years of experience leading the design and construction of major capital projects in excess of $100 million.  Demonstrated ability to lead a professional team and proven experience working on complex issues to a successful outcome. Tunnel design and construction experience and professional engineering license highly desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Excellent written and verbal skills.
