Merchandise Buyer

Salary Commensurate with Experience

Barnes & Noble College Booksellers is searching for a Merchandise Buyer for our College bookstore division. This position will be located in our Basking ridge, NJ home office.

In this role the merchandise buyer will contribute to product presentation and merchandising strategy to support strategic and financial goals. Develop and select assortments that are customer focused and support the technical needs of the business.   This position involves multiple categories, Art supplies, Medical Supplies, Computer supplies and Electronics.

Responsibilities:
• Product selection and assortment development for assigned product category.
• Assist in executing course required assortments and merchandise plan for the stores.

• Manage Open to Buy, Gross Margin, Rebate and Markdown plan for area of responsibility

• Conduct research and business analysis regarding market/consumer trends, demographics, merchandise sales levels, competitor performance, etc.
• Work closely with vendors and negotiate all facets of product purchase, terms, rebate, price, quantities, etc.
• Travel to stores, trade shows, markets, and vendor facilities to meet vendors and negotiate merchandise purchases.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree is Preferred. Three to five years related buying experience is required. Electronics buying experience is a plus. Experience with open to buy, gross margins, assortment planning and vendor negotiation is needed.   Strong verbal and written communications skills are required. Must have the ability to multi-task.
